The Client
Overview
For more than a decade, La Trobe University has partnered with Visual Production Agency as a trusted creative collaborator, using video and photography to tell student stories, communicate academic initiatives and strengthen institutional identity. This long-term partnership has spanned multiple faculties and departments, most recently the La Trobe University Library, where we produced staff profiles, explainer content, training resources and promotional materials to support modernised campus communication.
Across ten years, the content has played a key role in supporting La Trobe’s mission to create an accessible and vibrant academic environment. Through consistent visual storytelling, the work has elevated student experience, celebrated staff expertise and communicated the university’s vision in a clear, engaging and human way.
The Challenge
As a large and evolving tertiary institution, La Trobe University must communicate effectively with a wide and diverse audience including students, academics, researchers, professional staff and the broader community. Over time, messaging can become fragmented across departments, while new initiatives require strong storytelling to gain awareness and understanding.
The key challenges were presenting internal processes and policies in a way that felt engaging and approachable, ensuring training and explainer content remained clear and accessible, and capturing La Trobe’s tone as both academically credible and future focused. Coordinating multiple departments, schedules and stakeholders added further complexity, as did the need to produce content that could serve immediate communication needs while remaining relevant long term.
These challenges shaped a creative approach grounded in clarity, consistency and scalable production.
The Solution
Rather than working on isolated projects, Visual Production Agency developed a long-term collaboration model that allowed La Trobe to build content across campaigns, faculties and institutional milestones with strong brand continuity.
The production approach focused on modular content planning so footage could be repurposed across channels, embedded on-campus filming to capture authentic student and staff environments, and narrative-led creative direction that humanised university messaging through real stories.
Collaboration with internal communications teams ensured all content aligned with branding, accessibility and inclusivity standards. Integrating photography and video allowed La Trobe to maintain a cohesive visual identity across websites, social platforms, training systems and campaign materials.
Over time, this approach created a robust content library that continues to support marketing, internal training and public communications.

Why It Matters
This long-standing partnership has helped La Trobe University communicate with clarity, consistency and confidence through years of organisational change and student evolution. The content strengthened institutional identity, improved the effectiveness of internal communications and increased engagement across digital touchpoints.
The reusable asset library built through this collaboration continues to support new initiatives without the need for repeated filming, providing long-term value and flexibility. Departments that were previously underrepresented now have greater visibility through professional, consistent storytelling.
The greatest outcome is longevity. La Trobe University now has a scalable library of creative assets designed to support the next decade of student experience, staff culture and community connection.
